Product description

The author of this fascinating book was the 'rare book manager' at The Times Bookshop in the 1960s. His career in books brought him into contact with many intriguing characters, both alive and long departed, and here he offers the reader nine fascinating biographical pieces, full of interesting facts that might not otherwise be generally known, with illustrations of the people described.

Timothy D'Arch Smith (b. 1936) is known as a bibliographer, reviewer, and antiquarian bookseller, and the author (and co-editor) of a number of books and bibliographical catalogues.

Our copy is in good condition, with a good dust jacket showing only minor signs of wear at the top edge. The book itself is bound in light blue cloth with title etc in red lettering on the spine, bordered by red wavy lines. Very slight pale mottling at edges and on the front cover. inside, pink endpapers are intact and clean apart from a pencilled initial dated 4.11.03 at the top of the front pastedown. Binding is firm with no loose pages; all pages clean and bright.
