A Religious Orgy in Tennessee: A Reporter's Account of the Scopes Monkey Trial

£17.99

Product description

The Scopes Monkey Trial was an American legal case in July 1925, in which a substitute high school teacher was accused of violating the Butler Act, which had made it unlawful to teach human evolution in any state-funded school in Tennessee.

The essays in which Mencken covered the trial are fiercely intelligent, scathingly honest, and hysterically funny. They so galvanized the nation that it eventually inspired a Broadway play and the classic Hollywood movie "Inherit the Wind".

The cover and the front few pages of the book are curling slightly, but the book is otherwise in very good condition. The binding is tight and the pages are clean and unmarked.
