Fast Castle - Excavations 1971-86

£24.99

Product description

The ruins of Fast Castle stand on a sheer-sided rock outcrop at the north-east end of the Lammermuir Hills in Berwickshire. This report discusses the excavation carried out at the site between 1971 and 1986, outlining the earliest evidence from the Iron Age and the history of the first castle constructed there, probably in the 14th century, through to its abandonment in the 17th century. Presenting the finds as well as the results from the excavation, this is a good, detailed report on a strategic and defensible site which, at times, was used by both Scottish and English forces.
