Established in 1952, the International House of Japan is a private, non-profit organisation created to promote and foster cultural exchange and intellectual cooperation between Japan and other countries. It was designated as a Special Corporation in the Public Interest by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in November 1989, and in 2012 it received authorisation from the Prime Minister's office to become a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation.

Though International House of Japan is a members-only institution, most of the I-House programs are open to the public. These include lectures by Japan specialists from various fields, concerts and other arts events.

Published in 2012, this book describes the genesis of the project and its evolution. The book is in very good condition, as new.
