Woolf in Ceylon : an Imperial journey in the shadow of Leonard Woolf 1904-1911

£29.99

Product description

Leonard Woolf (1880-1969) had a short career as a cadet in Ceylon's colonial civil service having failed the exam for the home civil service  between 1904-1911. The book describes a journey taken by Christopher Ondaatje, who was born in Ceylon. Revisiting his subject's former imperial haunts the author considers afresh Woolf's wide range of writings on the country including 'The Village in the Jungle'. Extensively illustrated with period and modern photographs from Woolf and the author's journeys. The book is in good condition but the corners are slightly bumped. It previously belong to, and was donated by, the late Professor Sir David Weatherall (1933-2018).
