A general account of its history, processes and applications. This is a fully revised edition of the textbook published by the Technical Section in 1949. At the front is a list of acknowledgements and a contents page; at the back is an index of papermaking terms, a glossary and a general index.

There is no dust jacket. The boards are cloth bound in turquoise with the title and publisher's mark gilt embossed along the spine; the title is also gilt embossed on the front cover. There is a 'YD Papers' label inside the front cover and, inside the back cover is a stamp saying 'Yates Duxbury & Sons Ltd., Heap Bridge Paper Mills, Bury, Lancs.'. The (cut) binding is still tight and the pages are clean and legible.
