A very well looked after ex libris copy of David W. Messer's guide to the Philadelphia to Harrisburg railway between 1828 and 1998, part of the 'Triumph' series of works. The volume covers the struggle between canal and railroad in Pennsylvania to provide lucrative access to the midwest, and the formation and construction of the east-west mainline. The focus in on the mainline, with some attention devoted to the Columbia Branch due to its historic importance. Very nicely laid out with numerous maps and other historical documents, and photographs in both black and white.

In very good condition, with a little bit of fading along the spine.  Has a sticker on the inside cover from the previous owner.
