Passion Plays 1960 Oberammergau Official Guide and Text Book

WAS £8.99 £5.39

Product description

A section from the foreword by the Mayor of Oberammergau March 1960
"When the doors of the Passion Play Theatre closed in September 1950, Oberammergau could look back on a very successful season. As far as attendance was concerned, it reached a record in the three centuries of the Play. Many tributes of appreciation and praise were paid to the play and its organisation. We also heard voices of criticism, sometimes unduly severe, and we took them seriously. We know full well the shortcomings and weaknesses which can be imputed to the Play, particularly in our time. That is why Oberammergau has not been idle these last ten years. It has quietly but resolutely gone ahead with preparations for 1960, guided by the unalterable will to adhere in a spirit of reverence and genuine piety to the great tradition, determined not to allow it to atrophy as a result of indifference, still less of arrogance.

This booklet is a witness of these earnest endeavours. it aims at giving the reader an insight into the development and the essence of the Play and at making him familiar with the people acting in it and with its natural environment. Friends of the Passion Play village have once more helped to produce this Official Guide and have enriched the literature on the Play by their new and valuable contributions."

The Text Book is the full script of the play.

Both have good pages with some edge-wear.
