Pendlebury and the Plaster Saints - Ronald Hamilton and Colin Badcock - 1959

£20.00

Product description

Pendlebury and the Plaster Saints: A Dialogue in Winchester Chapel by Ronald Hamilton and Colin Badcock

There are lots of saints and lots of stories about them - about Lawrence's gridiron or the Catherine Wheel. But there are very few books about them, except guide-books and little works of rather overwhelming sanctity.
This book takes a particular selection of stained-glass saints and tells their stories in the form of a dialogue between a saint and a schoolboy. The interest is in the story in each case, though a certain amount of general information is thrown in as well.
In fact the whole is a mixture of much that you know already and much that makes you say "Well, I never knew that." Whatever its faults, the book at least avoids confusing religion with systematized gloom.

Includes contents, preface, plan of Winchester Chapel to illustrate "Pendlebury and the Plaster Saints", acknowledgements, and a list of books consulted.
Hardback copy signed by the author, Ronald Hamilton.
A stick down paper with 'Best wishes' and a list of names attached to the front fly paper. Dust jacket is faded at the spine edge and has some foxing but is still in good condition. Foxing on outside edges but inside is clean and in good condition. Green boards are bright and clean, showing no signs of wear. Original price of 13s 6d. still intact.
