Unquiet Souls: Fourteenth Century Saints and their Religious Milieu

£12.99

Product description

Used, good condition, hard cover with dust jacket, published 1984.
Unquiet Souls probes the lives of the mystics and visionaries who abounded in the fourteenth century, recreating for modern readers the spiritual fervour of the time. Richard Kieckhefer's discerning analysis of these remarkable men and women focuses on the characteristic aspects of late medieval piety: patient endurance of suffering, devotion to the passion of Christ, penitence and the mystical phenomena of rapture and revelation. Kieckhefer examines the particular significance of these themes for the intense spirituality of the period, noting that we can see these saints clearly only through the lenses provided by their fourteenth century hagiographers.
The dust jacket is quite worn with creasing to the top and bottom edges and a little damage to the top near the spine and the top front corner which have been mended with sellotape. There is bumping to the top and bottom of the spine and the corners of the hard cover, however the binding is sound and the spine remains in good condition. Internally the pages are all clean and unmarked.
