Classic films Collection - 4 DVD Boxset - Cert PG

£12.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

A four film box set of classic tales. 'The 300 Spartans' (1962), is a colourful action film about the Battle Of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. King Leodinas (Richard Egan), with the help of locals, tries to stop the attack of thousands of Persian invaders led by King Xerxes (David Farrar). In 'Alexander the Great' (1955), Ancient Greek hero Alexander the Great (Richard Burton) is schooled in the arts by Aristotle (Barry Jones), but has a somewhat less cerebral destiny awaiting him. Following in the footsteps of his father (Fredric March), he uses a combination of military might and political cunning to sweep all his enemies before him, uniting Europe and Asia in the process. In 'The Robe' (1953), Marcellus Gallio (Richard Burton) is a Roman centurion who wins the robe of the crucified Christ while gambling at the foot of the cross. At first insensitive to the beliefs of the new Christian church, Marcellus' possession of the robe soon begins to have a profound effect upon both him and his childhood sweetheart Diana (Jean Simmons). Meanwhile, Demetrius (Victor Mature), Marcellus' slave, is planning to leave and serve a higher master. 'Demetrius and the Gladiators' (1953), Henry Koster's classic Biblical epic, was the first film to be made using CinemaScope, the original widescreen process. A sequel to 'The Robe'. After the death of his master Marcellus, Greek slave Demetrius (Victor Mature) is sent to Rome to train as a gladiator. There his new-found Christian faith is put to the test when he becomes embroiled in the political machinations between Emperor Caligula (Jay Robinson), Claudius and the seductive but evil Messalina (Susan Hayward).
Great selection from the heyday of epic movies. Slight wear to card sleeve otherwise good condition.
