A boxset containing three films directed by John Hughes
The Breakfast Club (1.78:1)
Five mismatched teenagers are stuck with each other for the day when they are forced to spend Saturday at school on detention. Gradually, though, unlikely friendships form. John Hughes' seminal high school comedy set the template for a number of 1980s teen movies, while Simple Minds scored a huge hit with their theme song, 'Don't You Forget About Me'.
Sixteen Candles (1.85:1)
Samantha Baker (Molly Ringwald) is approaching her sixteenth birthday, but sees little to celebrate about: her family have, in any case, forgotten her big day, and she is suffering from a severe bout of unrequited love. Worse still, the object of her affections is being courted by the school's most desirable student - can Samantha trust her quarry to value brains over beauty? John Hughes' teen comedy features a soundtrack including Spandau Ballet, Thompson Twins and The Stray Cats.
Weird Science (1.85:1)
A John Hughes vehicle which mixes sci-fi, teen fantasies and comedy. A couple of nerdy schoolboys hook a Barbie doll to their computer and scan in magazine pictures of 'perfect' parts of the female anatomy as part of their experiment. The result is the woman of their dreams - Lisa (Kelly LeBrock), a curvaceous and house proud beauty - whose mission it is to help them get the girls. They soon find themselves the most popular boys at school after Lisa manages to loosen them up a bit.
