A History of the Earth and Animated Nature by Oliver Goldsmith. Vols 1 & 2

£92.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

Published circa 1870 (undated) by A. Fullarton & Co: Edinburgh & London. A set of two volumes. Hardback. Green boards. Quarter bound. Gilt lettering and raised gilt bands on spine. Moderate shelf wear to both volumes. Corners bumped and scuffed. Ditto to spine. Page ends are marbled. Marbled end papers. Some foxing to opening pages. Inside pages have darkened (tanned) slightly with age. Binding is very secure. The many colour illustrations are still remarkably bright, given their age.

These volumes include a biography of William Goldsmith by Washington Irving and 'An Introductory View of the Animal Kingdom' by Baron Cuvier with additional notes by Professor MacGillivray of Marischal College, Aberdeen.

This work was first published in 1774 by the playwright and novelist, Oliver Goldsmith. Originally in 8 volumes, it attempted to bring together a history of the earth with a description of its geographical features and many of its species. This 2-volume set is a Victorian reprint with additional material.

This attractively illustrated work is offered at a very competitive price. NB additional postage charge.
