Publisher: Archibald Constable & Co Ltd, Westminster, 1902, 1st edition, illustrated by E.Somerville with 8 full page colour plates and other b&w drawings, some full page and some in the text. Scarce. Hardback, 48 pages, thick card paper,no dustjacket. The cover, in faded green cloth boards and spine with black and faded green titling and horse and rider on front, is in poor to fair condition commensurate with age with shelfwear / rubbing to edges and along spine, fading to boards and titling and a few stains on the back. Bumping to spine extremities and corners, small split along upper spine cover edge and further at bottom of spine edge. Internally the book is in fair and complete condition but the binding is generally very loose and partially detached from cover with some pages completely detached. There are some foxing spots here and there throughout and some tanning to page edges. The illustrations by E Somerville are generally clear and bright and all 8 wonderful colour plates are present. One or two pages have some edge creases and edge fraying. The book is complete and generally clean and can be enjoyed and appreciated as it is is or could be subject to a straightforward and very worthwhile restoration to return it to its full glory.
