A Walk Across Africa, or Domestic Scenes From My Nile Journal, by James Augustus Grant. First Edition. 452 pp with frontispiece and folding map. Edinburgh: William Blackwood and Sons, 1864. Dark cloth-covered board covers with black lettering on spine and illustration on front.

Grant accompanied Speke on the 1860-63 journey to discover the source of the Nile, and this book was published as a supplement to Speke's account. The book is dedicated to the memory of Speke who died in September 1864.

Cover has tears and cuts to spine, and fading on spine. Corners damaged. First few pages loose (and torn around edges) and some general loosening to binding although still holding. Owner's name and date '22' (1922). Some stains, and a couple of pages at front with child's scribble. Map in the back cover is stained but complete. Pocket in the back cover is torn around lower edge.

We stock modern fiction, classic literature, and sci-fi/fantasy books. History, travel, transport and hobby activities are also well catered for. There is also a book section just for children. For the music enthusiast there is sheet music, vinyl and CDs as well as a listening post. We also stock DVDs and computer games.

Please feel free to come and browse. We are always happy to receive your donations of books or music, and you will be asked if you wish to Gift Aid them to Oxfam.

We are always on the lookout for people who have some spare time to donate to us in the form of volunteering. Should this be you then please ask for a Volunteer Application Form at the till.
