Aboriginal Bark PAintings

£4.99

Product description

Title: Aboriginal Bark Paintings

Author: Robert Edwards & Bruce Guerin

Extract from the Foreword:

The central theme of Aboriginal art throughout Australia lies in the sacred religious beliefs of the people. Thus many of the brilliantly decorated sheets of bark from Arnhem Land with their vivid colour contrasts, illustrate the activities of the great creator and other spirits, and places associated with them. The materials are simple, the technique crude, and the colour range limited, but the enormous variation of the subjects and designs is an excellent example of the manner in which the artistic talents and imagery of a people can be inspired by their religious faith. The production of such art by a hunting and food gathering people is an achievement of some distinction.

Fred Woborthy

Principal, Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies, Canberra.

The book has a photographic cover both front and rear and black lettering to the spine.

All four corners of the front and rear cover have wear.

The edge of the front and rear gutter hinge upper and lower have wear.

There are stains on the front cover in the upper section.

The front and rear endpages have foxing.
