Product description

Ceremonies of the Lhasa Year - by Hugh Richardson - First Edition; Rare Signed Copy

This lovely photography book is in excellent condition throughout. It is a moving eye-witness account presenting the major state rituals and festivals officially enacted in the Tibetan capital under the auspices of the Dalai Lama's government before the Chinese Communist takeover in 1959. Hugh Richardson provides his own detailed memories of the calendar of spectacular rituals which served both to demonstrate and legitimise the power of the old Tibetan state. This book is an illustrated narrative as fresh and vivid as if these scenes were still being performed today.

This copy is in excellent condition throughout. It is packed full of black-and-white photographs accompanied by detailed text. It is faded but clean and unmarked. The author has signed the half title page in blue ink. This is a rare find as there are few signed copies available from online retailers at the present time.
