A biographical study of Australian woodcarver Ellen Nora Payne (1865-1962) written  as a tribute to her remarkable achievements in woodcarving in Tasmania which not only included chests for friends and relatives but also requests from  churches, schools, private firms and institutions for carved memorial and patriotic objects. Using Tasmanian blackwood, cedar, European oak, walnut and mahogany, she adopted a style which reflected the contemporary revival of medieval forms as well as the fashionable Art Nouveau.
Limited edition of 750 numbered copies signed by the author. Condition: good. Green board covers w/ dust jacket showing some wear particularly along the top edge. Includes a family tree on the inside of front/back covers. Illustrated with b/w photographs of Ellen Payne's best carvings.
