Fanny Osborne's Flower Paintings

£10.00

Product description

Heinemann, 1983. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Maroon boards. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Some sunning to spine. 84 pp of Illustrations. Small dedication on cover page. Fanny Osborne's watercolours of New Zealand native flowers are a particularly fine example of botanical art. Her paintings are not merely beautiful - They are all painted to a high degree of botanical accuracy. They were all painted in the early 1900s on Great Barrier Island where Fanny Osborne lived as a child and later with her own family of 13 children. From both scientific and artistic points of view, Fanny Osborne's paintings of the flowers of the indigenous trees, shrubs, vines and herbs of Great Barrier are exceptional and superbly crafted examples of botanical illustration. They are accurate in every detail, and yet simultaneously communicate the beauty and delicacy of the specimen. They also provide valuable historical documentation of the plant life of the island
