Unique complete 6 part (in 7 volumes) set of the official history of The Times newspaper, published between 1935 and 1993, the last of which is inscribed by the author of that volume (historian John Grigg) to the author of the previous volume, ex-Times editor Iverach McDonald "For Iverach McDonald, old friend and honoured precursor, with many thanks and best wishes, John Grigg, 20.x.93". The last two volumes in dustjackets, the previous without, as issued. All in blue cloth with gilt to upper and spine. First five volumes (1 to 4 part 2) each with a lithograph pasted in, facing title page, and authors uncredited. Price includes considerable cost of excess postage.

Volume 1 (1785-1841, "The Thunderer in the Making") in VG condition, some light scuffing to lower, spine ends very slightly pushed. Block clean with slight age-yellowing as expected, binding firm, couple of compression marks to edges. Second impression 1950.

Volume 2 (1841-1884, "The Tradition Established") in like. First edition, 1939.

Volume 3 (1884-1912, "The Twentieth Century Test") in like, without marks to edges, with top upper board corner slightly bent. Second impression 1951.

Volume 4 (1912-1920, "The 150th Anniversary and Beyond, part 1") in like, without bent corner. First edition, 1952.

Volume 5 (1921-1948, "The 150th Anniversary and Beyond, part 2"), in VG condition, slight pushing to spine tail. First edition, 1952.

Volume 6 (1939-1966, "Struggles in War and Peace"by Iverach McDonald) in good to VG blue cloth, rubbing and pushing to spine ends and slight rubbing to board edges, in fair to good slightly loose unclipped jacket with creases to edges and fading to spine. First edition, 1984)

Volume 7 (1966-1981, "The Thomson Years", by John Grigg) in VG blue cloth, spine tail slightly pushed and board corners a touch worn, light dust staining to bottom block corner, with good to VG unclipped dustjacket. Inscribed, as above. First edition, 1993.
