In the Ghetto of Warsaw. Heinrich Jost's Photographs. Gunther Schwarberg.

£24.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Heinrch Jost was a sergeant in the German Army stationed near Warsaw. On his birthday in September 1941 he used his free time to go in to the ghetto with his camera. This book contains 137 stark, horrifying pictures of life and death in the ghetto. Between July and September 1941 16,000 people died in the ghetto of disease and hunger. The images only came to light in 1982 when Jost showed them to Gunther Schwarberg, a reporter, and they were subsequently published. The book is in virtually as new condition in a very good unclipped dust jacket. The only fault in the book is that two photographs, nos. 38 and 39, are missing. No marks or inscriptions. Not ex-library. The six attached images will give a good impression of the book's condition.
