L'Age De La Pierre [1902, Association Copy]

£50.00

Product description

Published in 1902 by Librairie C.Reinwald / Schleicher Frères. Half-leather binding with 5 raised spine bands & gilt titles. Green boards and green end papers.

Written in French, this describes the life of early man in the South of France. Richly illustrated with 26 pictures in the text and also four full page plates.

Of particular interest is the former owner of this book. A book plate attached to the inside front cover has the name 'Agnes Fry'. There are two people of interest with this name which fit with the age of the book; one is the daughter (1868 to 1957) of Sir Edward Fry of the Quaker/chocolate family. Sir Edward was a well known Zoologist and also a Court of Appeal Judge. The other is his sister (1866 to 1934).
There are a number of interesting Pencil sketches on a few pages towards the rear of the book of ancient objects relevant to the book's subject, such as wall paintings and stone knives with a note of the museums where they were seen. There are also a couple of newspaper clippings attached to pages.
These additions make this an exciting and unique volume.

The cover does have some rubbing wear and marks, and the pages are a bit yellowed. However the book is in acceptable condition and the binding is sound.
