Memoirs of the Civil War in Wales and the Marches 1642-1649

£95.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

This is a two volume set, volume I having 420 pages and volume II having 414 pages. The books provide a detailed history of the English Civil War as carried on in Wales and the Welsh Marches. Volume II contains supporting documents. Both volumes: Purple cloth boards and brown cloth spine, with gilt titling to the spine. The boards and spine are heavily stained. The corners are bumped and worn. The board edges are worn, and the head and tail of the spine are crushed with some small nicks. Page edges are dusty. Yellow pastedowns and end papers, the front free end paper bearing the name "F. L. Lloyd-Phillips" in ink. The pages are a bit tanned, and there is some occasional light foxing and a few light stains, but otherwise the text blocks are clean and (except at the front and rear hinges as mentioned below) tightly bound. Vol. I: There is a small tear in the cloth towards the foot of the rear board. There are partial splits to the front and rear hinges, with some exposed webbing at the rear hinge. A bookplate in the name of "R. LL. LLOYD" is on the front pastedown. The letter "g" has been pencilled at the end of the last page. Vol. II: The spine of Vol. II is rather faded. The front and rear hinges are split, with exposed webbing. The lower corners of pages 243/4 and 245/6 are folded. These books would be "good" condition but for the heavy staining of the boards. A scarce work, especially with both volumes present and not ex-(public) library.
