Memoirs of the Emperor Jahangueir

£34.99

Product description

Memoirs of the Emperor Jahangueir

B. Basu & Co. The Bangabasi Office, Calcutta. 1917. pp203 plus advertisement, pronunciation note, introduction and index all taking up eight pages.

Bright blue morocco boards, quarterbound in tan calfskin. The cover has taken some knocks over the years: the front board has at least three tones of blue; there is a pronounced dent of 2cms on the fore edge, shelf wear to the base that has exposed the underlying card, and many marks and small stains. The leather elements to the cover have done much better and life's wear and tear have only served to impart a sense of dignity and maturity to the book.

The thread section binding is visible along inner hinges. Tear to advertisement page.

Block is perfectly readable but 12 page section (24-33) is the colour of strong tea and is rough cut - obviously a different grade of paper here.

The book ends with: "Thus abruptly terminates the Imperial Auto-biographer's Memoirs." There is however a grand advertisement that follows, entitled, "Bijoya Batika - the wonderful fever pill" that promises infallible relief from all conditions medical - from spleen and liver to brain fever, endorsed by six worthy testamonials

Volunteer listed

Wonder how this unique item ended up online?

Most of the second-hand items you see online have been donated, by supporters like you, to our high street stores. Each item is then priced, photographed and listed on this site by our amazing team of volunteers from across the country.

After you have bought your item, our team of volunteers package and dispatch it from the Shop straight to you or your chosen recipient.

All profits from the sales of our goods go towards funding Oxfam's work around the world. We rely on your donations to sell online so please keep the cycle of goodness going!

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
