Product description

A collection of  literary sketches of rural life written by Mary Russell Mitford, originally published during the 1820s and 1830s. The series first appeared in The Lady's Magazine. The full title is: Our Village: Sketches of Rural Character and Scenery. The vivid series was based upon life in Three Mile Cross, a hamlet in the parish of Shinfield, where she lived. With introduction by Anne Isabella Thackeray Ritchie, black and white illustrations by Hugh Thomson.
Dark green covers with elaborate embossed gilt decoration on front and spine. B&W line illustrations, tissue frontispiece. Pages are gilt-edged on all sides. Some foxing throughout, slight damage to covers. Inscribed by previous owners (See photos). Gilt decoration is very bright. A beautiful copy.
