Hardback. Black embossed and decorated card. Spine, embossed and ribbed decoration, gilt letters, rubbed, chipped and bumped. Front-board, and backboard,embossed decoration, with gilt letters rubbed, chipped and bumped. All edges gilt, with handling marks. Used fair condition. Hinge between paste-down and end-paper cracked, paste-down has a booksellers sticker. Hinge between back paste-down and end-paper cracked at the top. Flyleaf has a inscription by a previous owner. Plate page 259 and tissue has come loose from its binding. Some pages are foxed.

James Montgomery was a Scottish-born hymn writer, poet and editor. His writings reflected concern for humanitarian causes such as the abolition of slavery and the exploitation of child chimney sweeps. He was raised in and theologically trained by the Moravian Church.

On the first floor we have a large books and music room with comfortable seating provided, so that you can take your time while browsing and pick the perfect item. We have a vast and ever changing selection of Homewares and Bric-a-Brac, from bargain items to antiques and everything in between. We stock Fairtrade food and drinks, gifts and cards all year round, and we have an amazing Christmas range, with gifts to suit all tastes and budgets. 

We also run an Online Shop from our Online Suite, sending high quality clothing, books and records all over the world. We have a Facebook page, full of information on what we do in store and how your support helps fight poverty all over the world. 

We have a large and varied team of volunteers, and we are always looking for new people to join our team. We have dozens of opportunities, including Customer Service, Stock Handling, Social Media, Online Sales, Book Sales, and many, many more.
