Puritanism and Liberty

£24.99

Product description

Puritanism and Liberty - ASP Woodhouse
JM Dent and Sons Limited. 1951 second edition reprint. pp506

Being the Army Debates (1647-9) from the Clarke Manuscripts with Supplementary Documents. Selected and edited with an introduction by ASP Woodhouse and a foreword by Lord Lindsay of Birker.

Off-white paper jacket badly torn to front and rear with corners and top of spine exposed.
Bright orange boards with nice gold titles to spine. Badly knocked at top right corner with inner binding clearly visible. Spine frayed and sunned at top where the jacket obviously slipped down.

Front end paper signed by owner - Xmas 1959.
Block is very good; strongly bound and evenly tanned throughout with unusual peppery scent. Rather dirty page edges.

"This admirable book has become a standard text for all who wish to study the early beginnings of western democratic ideas . . . showing the fundamental connection between western democracy and liberty, and the opposition between democracy and any kind of totalitarianism."

Wonder how this unique item ended up online?

Most of the second-hand items you see online have been donated, by supporters like you, to our high street stores. Each item is then priced, photographed and listed on this site by our amazing team of volunteers from across the country.

After you have bought your item, our team of volunteers package and dispatch it from the Shop straight to you or your chosen recipient.

All profits from the sales of our goods go towards funding Oxfam's work around the world. We rely on your donations to sell online so please keep the cycle of goodness going!

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
