A first edition (1960) of the biography of Dr William Marsden (1796-1867), founder of the Royal Free and Royal Marsden Hospitals, written by his great-granddaughter, Frieda Sandwith and Published by peter Davies. There is a newspaper cutting attached to the front endpaper announcing the death of the author alongside which is the signature of her daughter, the well-known sketch artist Noelle Sandwith. Also includes a short handwritten and signed note from Noelle Sandwith to the previous owner of the book.

Blue hard boards with gilt lettering to the spine. Illustrated dust jacket with transparent plastic cover. Includes one colour and one black and white plate of William Marsden and five black and white plates from the period. 13.5cm x 20.5cm, 235 pp including bibliography.

In good condition. The boards and spine are unfaded and show next to no shelf wear. Bindings are firm. The book block ends are stained and show some foxing. Internally, the pages are lightly tanned but no foxing is evident apart from the last page and end paper. The text and plates are clear throughout.
