Hardcover, HMSO, 1970, Volume 2, Illustrated, Dustwrapper. Some shelfwear and the plates have slight water damage along the bottom edge although this does not come up far enough to affect the photographs, dustwrapper is bumped particularly along top edge and has a number of long scratches. This study is based on the sword collection, which includes dirks and cutlasses, in the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich. Photographs (black and white) of some 150 swords, dirks and cutlasses illustrate the more important variations relating to each type. Brief biographical studies of those by whom they were used are included.
