The Biography of Guru Dev; Life and Teachings of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath (1941-1953), vol. II, by Paul Mason. Premanand. 2009. Pbk. 326 pp.
The text is in both Hindi and English. "Of a well-off zamindar (landlord) family, all comfort and wealth was available for this young child. But who knew that the young child being reared on velvety cushions would become a siddha yogi, detached from worldly existence and be gracing the seat of the Shakarcharya?" Not me, for a start.
Some of what follows seems to be part of the same illustrious guru's autobiography; other parts are a hagiography clearly written by one of his followers. The plot is somewhat episodic, as is the way with such a genre. Born, dispenses wisdom, performs the usual miracles, dispenses a bit more wisdom, dies beatifically and goes to heaven.
Yours for a mere £6.99, if this sort of thing really excites you.
