The book is in fair condition. The binding is sound. Some light to moderate shelf
wear.

The  front cover is slightly faded towards the spine and there are some small
miscellaneous marks: thin scratches approx. 7mm long towards the centre; faded
small marks towards the left-hand edge.

The spine is moderately faded and has a brown flick approx. 10mm long, 1mm wide
towards the top edge along with three small dark brown dots. The back cover is
faded around the edges, approx. 40mm wide, and it is also lightly scratched.
The edges are lightly speckled with brown spots.

Inside, the illustrated end papers (both pasted down and loose, front and back) have
light speckles around the edges. The loose end papers have a rectangular brown
mark approx. 100 x 180 mm.

There is also some light speckling through the book, towards the edges mostly.

 Essays of Elia is a collection of essays written by Charles Lamb; it was first
published in book form in 1823, with a second volume, Last Essays of Elia,
issued in 1833 by the publisher Edward Moxon. The essays in the collection
first began appearing in The London Magazine in 1820 and continued to 1825.
