The Flora of Suffolk

£39.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Published in 1889, 'The Flora of Suffolk' is subtitled 'A Topographical Enumeration of the Plants of the County, showing the Results of former Observations and of the most recent Researches.'

The main part of the book details the flora of the county of Suffolk, as well as covering the geology, climate, rainfall and natural features of the area in the introduction. The book lists the plants in the second part, under their Latin genus and species headings. The entries contain information such as when the plant was discovered, who by, and where it can be found. In the back of the book the plants are listed again in a table showing where they can be found. The last chapter of the book concerns a comparison of the flora of Suffolk, and its surrounding areas, with that of Holland. There is also a colour map at the front of the book, showing the county of Suffolk divided up into its four constituent parts at the time.

The book itself is in relatively good condition. The boards are cream with a red cloth spine, and gold edges. The name of the author and title of the book are printed on the spine on gold lettering on a black strip material. There is some discolouration to the top edges of the pages and some foxing to the first few pages, including the map. This book is an unusual piece of historical geography, and it would appeal to those interested in plants as well as those interested in the history of Suffolk.
