This report describes the offshore geology of the area to the north and west of Scotland. The area to the north and west of Scotland is a relatively unexplored frontier region where possibly significant hydrocarbon reserves remain undiscovered. Since 1966, the British Geological Survey (BGS) has been studying the area in order to produce geological and geophysical maps on a scale of 1:250 000 as part of a survey of the United Kingdom (UK) Continental Shelf.
