A collection of all of the weekly issues of Girl's Own Paper published between October 4, 1890 and September 26, 1891. The papers catered for girls and young women, with serialised stories, poems, articles on health, dress and nature, plus true life experiences, sports, music and many other topics.
Bound in brown cloth on bevelled boards with gilt lettering and decoration on the cover and spine. Some of the gilt and colour has faded and there are light soiling marks and indentations on the covers. Corners are worn with surface loss and some fraying and edges have rubbing wear; spine ends are bumped and worn with small tears, and small parts of the lower spine end have been lost. The front board has broken away from the block but is still attached to the spine cover, which folds back.
There is a neatly written dedication dated May 10 1892 on the front free end paper, which is attached to the frontispiece, a coloured painting by Kate Greenaway, and both are loose from the block. Several early leaves have fingermarks, and some leaves are partially loose. A fold-out illustration page between p298 and p299 is incomplete. Contains numerous monochrome illustrations and engravings.
