Sub title “to which is now added The Calendar of Flowers and The Dial of Flowers”.

After a preface there is a long introduction and then individual species of common flower. Each has a section devoted to it. Interspersed there are sections not specifically dealing with flowers – hospitality, dead leaves, several species of tree. Each section describes the subject and then gives literary references to it. There are no illustrations.

Hardback with no DJ.Dark cloth covered boards with impressed pattern on the front and a repetitive pattern on the rear. Black end pages. Page edges in gilt. Good binding and no marks but the inside hinge at the front between title page and ffep is slightly sprung and the hinges on the outside are both somewhat worn, although remaining functional. Previous owner's name written in pencil on title page. Pages are gilt edged. Top of page 149 to 152 slightly torn at the hinge side.
