Sheila and Anthony - brother and sister - live with their uncle by adoption, Robert Usherwood, to whom they are very devoted. He is given to absenting himself from home at intervals without leaving an address. Before one of these absences, he leaves a mysterious package in charge of Sheila's friend, Barbara, which she takes to her lodgings in Bloomsbury. The three young people go to the theatre one evening, and on their return home find a murdered man in the house. Who was the murdered man and what did the mysterious package contain? The mystery baffles Scotland Yard until, out of love for Sheila, a detective determines to solve it all costs.
