Hardback; 130 x 195 mm; light brown boards with titles in green on spine and front cover; xii & 365 pages plus 6 pages advertising other books. No dust jacket.

The book is in fair condition. The binding is generally sound though there is some cracking along the gutters. Some marks on the covers and the spine is significantly darkened and has some wear. Page end tanning and foxing, and foxing internally. Endpaper tanning, and an inscription in black ink on the recto of the front free endpaper.

Sir Henry John Newbolt (1862 – 1938) was an English poet, novelist and historian. He also had a very powerful role as a government adviser, particularly on Irish issues and with regard to the study of English in England. He is perhaps best remembered for his poems "Vitaï Lampada" and "Drake's Drum".
