The Present State of Europe
Thomas Longman and Charles Hitch. London. 1750.
pp512. Written by John Campbell but his name is not to be found anywhere in the book.
The book explains the interests, connections, political and commercial views of its several powers, comprehending also a clear and concise history of each country, so far as is necessary to show the nature of their present constitutions. Originally begun in the museum, and now, at the desire of some considerable persons, revised and completed by the same author.
Sprinkled brown leather boards with gilt borders. Five raised bands to spine with more gilt highlights and red morocco title plate. The front hinge is cracked but still very much intact thanks to the spine binding.
Paste down bears the plate of The Right Honourable the Lord Viscount Lymington, (Hon. John Wallop) holder of the newly created title of Earl of Portsmouth, along with his crest of two rampant sable antelopes, lions etc. Inner bindings all very good with everything strong and firm. The pages are all clear with minimal tanning and no foxing.
This is a fine book that is over 260 years old.
