216pp; plus 39 pages of Fisher Unwin "Catalogue of Publications", plus Index. Burgundy cloth covers with pictorial of Scottish thistle on front cover. Covers rubbed, some scuffs, but largely good. Spine faded. Bumping to cover corners and spine top and base, plus minor edgewear. Block clean, though showing age discolouration, as do end papers. Rough-cut pages, with some pages in the last 39 being uncut (not separated) still. 

Pages and illustrations throughout are essentially clean, and overall, with 13 delightful full page illustration plates, this copy is in good order, and is a fascinating period insight into the life of Victoria, and of Balmoral, the Scottish home of the Royal family.

Chapters include "the castle", "the memorials at Balmoral", "the queen's daily life at Balmoral", "her majesty's tenantry", "her majesty's servants", "how the queen travels", etc.

"'Frank Pope Humphrey' was the pseudonym for a married American woman. In addition to fiction, she wrote the nonfiction 'The Queen at Balmoral' (1893) and the children's book 'An American Dog Abroad' (1896)." ........ source "Victorianresearch".
