In October 1969 Stanley Booth, a young rock journalist at the beginning of his career, received the 'full and exclusive co-operation' of the Rolling Stones for a book he hoped to write about them. Now, fifteen years later, we have that book. The True Adventures of The Rolling Stones is, also, the story of the book - a story that was to cost Booth everything but his life. Beaten up by Confederate soldiers and Hell's Angels, he would go to jail, be run over by a lumber truck, break his back, and suffer from epileptic fits while trying to withdraw from drugs. 'All I got was the story', he says, 'and I got to hear the band play'.
