The Year 1921 Illustrated

£24.99

Product description

The Year 1921 Illustrated
George Allen & Unwin, Ltd. London. pp180. 32 illustrations

Dirty scuffed card boards with image of the opening of the Northern Parliament of Ireland, quarter bound in blue cloth. Spine very worn and discoloured - inner binding exposed at top and tail by 3cms.
Half title with ink drawing: "In the year of the drought". Frontispiece photograph of Queen Mary (inner binding exposed along margin).

Block is extensively foxed and tanned on war grade paper, all rather old and delicate but still firmly bound.

The book strongly features the fall out from the Great War with several pieces on German chemical factories. Otherwise attention is given to Charlie Chaplin and Einstein - this was around the time of great advances in atomic physics and there is an image of The Einstein Tower in Berlin. Other images include a seaplane with too many wings, and another of the Duke of Abruzzi tackling Bride's Peak in the Himalayas (properly named Chogolisa).

A nice book to flick through with not too much empire self aggrandising.

All profits from the sales of our goods go towards funding Oxfam's work around the world. We rely on your donations to sell online so please keep the cycle of goodness going!

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
