Vincent Van Gogh - Briefe an seinen Bruder -First Edition

WAS £31.99 £19.19

Product description

Hardback. Two volumes in German. Beige covers with black titles and black cloth covered spines with gilt titles. Good condition. Small sunned bands (1cm - 2cm) at top and bottom of covers. Some foxing in both volumes which does not impact on text, otherwise the contents are clean. Published by Paul Cassirer in Berlin, 1914.
This work edited by Jo van Gogh-Bonger consists mainly of letters from Vincent to his brother, her husband, Theo. She took on the task of publishing the letters following Theo's death. Due partly to its complexity this took 24 years. However she also believed that it would have been unfair to Vincent to generate interest in his person before the work to which he gave his life was appreciated and recognised.
