Woodland Frolics

£19.99

Product description

Unusually, for a book of the period, this features a black child with such charming companions as fairies and talking animals with clothes. Although a few white girls appear in the stories from South Africa, the author and illustrator Doreen Baxter centres most of the stories on Tandiwe and her dog Tulu, which are Zulu for "beloved" and "be quiet."

There is no dust jacket and the boards & spine show some signs of shelf wear. The original stone-coloured cover is discoloured, the corners are bumped and the spine has been pulled top & bottom. The title, author's name and publisher's mark is embossed in green along with illustrations on the front cover & spine.

The (cut) binding is still tight and the pages are largely clean and legible apart from a green mark on the title page.

One illustration is detached between pages 58 and 59.

There is a contents page at the font of the book.
